Description

The Bergamot with its ingenious scent is a native Canadian shrub used by American Indians for its medicinal properties. Wild bergamot is perennial and native to North America. Clusters of fragrant flowers produce copious nectar from June to September and are highly attractive to bees.

Bergamot have only been recently been cultivated as ornamental plant in Europe and originally originates from North America. There the bergamot blooms with its fire-red flowers. The petals are collected after blooming and air dried. The flowers are then sieved and sorted by hand. This is how the dried bergamot flower petals arrive at our warehouse in Germany.

Bergamot Petals contain flavonoids, essential oils and tannins (anthocyan monardein, essential oil with phenols as well as tannins and bitter substances).

The bergamot flower petals are preferably used in tea blends. As a mono tea, pour 2 teaspoons of bergamot flower petals into 1 cup/250 ml of boiling water and allow to steep for 10 minutes. You may enjoy up to 2 cups of bergamot flower petals per day.

The golden flower petals come from controlled cultivation and are free of pollutants.

Bergamot (Latin: Monarda didyma | Family: Labiatae) is a perennial 150 cm tall plant. The leaves are arranged opposite, broad, serrated and smell aromatic. The flowers have an intense scarlet color. The golden melissa should be propagated vegetatively, because plants from seed cultivation do not remain true to color. Red, light pink or violet may be possible. Use streamer of the powerful rhizome.

The Wild Bergamot Petals are grown according to organic guidelines, no chemical fertilizers, no pesticides. The bergamot flower petals are to be protected against light and moisture so the petals preserve their aroma.
